CONTENT AND PRACTICES
Non-Attendee Resources
As we prepare ourselves to respond to God’s invitation at Staff Conference 20, we realize that many throughout InterVarsity are unable to attend the conference for various reasons. The resources below are intended to be a way to engage the content and practices of the conference from afar, and we regret missing the chance to experience the conference alongside you.

Preparing Yourself Spiritually
The resources listed below have been available on the conference web site, and they could be used during or after the conference as well.
If you would rather engage a longer resource for ongoing spiritual reflection, please consider downloading A Hunger for God: Desiring God Through Fasting and Prayer by John Piper. Start with the Forward, Preface, and Introduction or simply use these three sections alone as a primer on fasting. Conference attendees will set aside a day for prayer and fasting together on Jan 4.
Lectio Divina
Use lectio divina to engage the texts that John Teter will exposit during each morning of the conference:
- Jan 3 – John 13:1-11 “Water”
- Jan 4 – John 14:1-9 “Life”
- Jan 5 – John 15:1-5 and 16:7-11 “Bread”
Lectio divina steps:
- Read aloud and reflect. How do you feel? What do you like? What troubles you?
- Read aloud, listening for a word or phrase. Ask Jesus why this is grabbing your attention.
- Read aloud, focusing on that word or phrase. Ask Jesus how he wants you to hold that word or phrase today.
- Make that word or phrase a breath prayer that you can carry throughout the day.
Prayer for the Campus
Conference attendees will be invited to optional revival prayer meetings that will happen each morning and during two afternoons. Join them in prayer by going to everycampus.com, entering a zip code, identifying a nearby campus, and asking God to bring revival in that place.
Revival is “a season of breakthroughs in word, deed, and power that usher in a new normal of kingdom experience and fruitfulness.”
Bonus points for going to the school and prayer walking the campus!
Prayer for your Colleagues at the Conference
Consider staying in contact with a friend at the conference who can fill you in on what has been happening and how to pray. If you intercede for the conference and would like to share what you are hearing from God with the conference intercession team, please go to tinyurl.com/sc20intercession.
Engage with Your Mind
Conference attendees will receive a copy of Longing for Revival, a new IVP book by James Choung and Ryan Pfeiffer. Consider reading the two chapters below and inviting a friend to do the same so you can discuss them together.
